Once again the Staff and Volunteers Tea was a great success, with about forty people turning out on a cold and wet February afternoon – a welcome bright spot in what can be a cheerless time of year. The event was delayed from its usual November slot due to the Christmas Extravaganza in December.
In the absence of Bruce, the committee chair, due to an urgent meeting, as vice-chair Mary said a few words of praise for everyone involved in the running of the shop. Mary herself is hugely involved on a day-to-day basis in the shop, and sees for herself everybody’s tremendous commitment.
Jennifer Duke, a Deputy Lieutenant of Somerset, and a good friend of the shop, also praised everyone for their hard work and dedication. She spoke of visiting other community enterprises in Somerset who were often struggling through difficulties recruiting volunteers, whereas Roadwater continues to thrive.
Most people lead very busy lives, so these teas are a rare opportunity for everyone to get together, to renew acquaintances, exchange experiences … and just generally relax among friends. A superb array of refreshments were provided by Jen’s Pantry, who are now our ‘go-to’ for these events. Many thanks to Sheila and everyone who helped to make it all happen.
